The files included with this archive document the performance of six
airfoils for application to small wind turbines. The companion report
is:

Selig, M.S. and McGranahan, B.D., 2004, Wind Tunnel Aerodynamic Tests
of Six Airfoils for Use on Small Wind Turbines, National Renewable
Energy Laboratory, NREL SR-500-34515, Golden, CO, approx 150 pages.

The report presents detailed wind tunnel tests data taken on six
airfoils having application to small wind turbines. In particular,
lift, drag and moment measurements were taken at Reynolds numbers of
100,000, 200,000, 350,000 and 500,000 for both clean and rough
conditions. In some cases, data was also taken at a Reynolds number
of 150,000. The airfoils included the E387, FX 63-137, S822, S834,
SD2030, and SH3055.

Prior to carrying out the tests, wind tunnel flow quality measurements
were taken to document the low Reynolds number test environment, and
also oil flow visualization data and performance data were taken on
the E387 for comparison with measurements taken at NASA Langley in the
Low Turbulence Pressure Tunnel. The new data compared favorably with
the benchmark NASA data. Highlights of the performance
characteristics of the six airfoils are then discussed.

An abbreviated form of this report appears as a technical paper:

of Six Airfoils for Use on Small Wind Turbines," presented at the 2004
ASME Wind Energy Symposium/AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, AIAA Paper
2004-1188, Reno, NV, January 2004, approx 20 pages.

An appendix in the report provides tabulated airfoil performance data
which are archived in this collection. The file naming convention is
as follows:

ASCII format files (.txt)
[airfoilName]_c_lft.txt .... lift data for the clean airfoil
[airfoilName]_c_drg.txt .... drag data for the clean airfoil
[airfoilName]_tf_lft.txt .... lift data for the tripped airfoil
[airfoilName]_tf_drg.txt .... drag data for the tripped airfoil

Microsoft Excel format files (.xls)
[airfoilName]_c_lft.xls .... lift data for the clean airfoil
[airfoilName]_c_drg.xls .... drag data for the clean airfoil
[airfoilName]_tf_lft.xls .... lift data for the tripped airfoil
[airfoilName]_tf_drg.xls .... drag data for the tripped airfoil

For quick reference, the file runtable_vol4.pdf lists in tabular form
the airfoils, Reynolds numbers and for "internal reference" the UIUC
LSATs run numbers.

This test campaign was carried out as part of the UIUC Low-Speed
Airfoil Tests (UIUC LSATs) project which is described online at:
